Sometimes when processing a payment at checkout customers receive the error message "Please try a different payment method. PayPal has errored with the following error: Unable to capture PayPal funds." Admittedly, this can cause some confusion.

On this page:

Am I required to use PayPal?

No. You are welcome to pay directly on our checkout page with VISA or MasterCard.

What does this error mean?

Understandably, this message is vague. For us too! However, it means that the payment did not work. Most likely it was declined. Alternatively, it could be that you are paying with DISCOVER or American Express. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to accept DISCOVER or AMEX on the checkout page directly. However, you can use these cards through PayPal. (In the PayPal window, you have the option to pay by credit card without creating a PayPal account.)

For possible reasons for a declined payment visit the following article: Why is my credit card being declined?

Why does it say "PayPal" then?

Ministry Ideaz is "Powered by PayPal".

They are our payment services provider. This is similar to going to a store and the cashier has a payment terminal from Square or Moneris. There are many different companies that offer these services. PayPal happens to be our payment processor.

Of course, in addition to business services, PayPal happens to offer services directly to individuals too. This is where the confusion develops. This reference to PayPal is about our service provider and is not in any way related to whether or not you have an account with them. You are not required to have a PayPal account to use our checkout page. Similar to how you are not required to have a Square account where a company uses Square's payment services.

What can I do?

Try the following to fix the error:

  1. try a different Visa or Mastercard credit card. (Note: debit is not accepted)
  2. Review the list of possible reasons for declined payments to see if they may apply to you. Sometimes, it is as simple as a typo in the credit card number. Or your bank could be blocking the payment because we are located outside the USA.
  3. If you are still having trouble, please contact us.
